2005年に東京音楽大学付属高等学校を首席で卒業。同年よりハンガリー国立リスト音楽院にて、バルトークやリストの研究者で世界的に著名なジョルジュ・ナードルに師事。

2008年より米国に拠点を移して演奏活動を開始。同年、ニュージャージー州・プリンストン大学でのシンポジウムに奨学生として参加し、エドナ・ゴランスキーにターブマン奏法を学ぶ。2009年、NYのスタインウェイホールにてリサイタルを行い満席となった。

3作目にあたる『レゾナンス～ホロヴィッツ・トリビュート～』では、ホロヴィッツが愛奏したと言われる銘器スタインウェイ 《CD75》をレコーディングに使用。レコード芸術誌において特選盤に選出された。

2014年には、YouTubeで200万再生を超えた「ラ・カンパネラ」（現在390万回突破）を含むDVD『AYA NAGATOMI IN CONCERT』をリリース。

2016年、キャリア初となるオール・ベートーヴェンの作品集『Aya Nagatomi plays Beethoven』をリリース（レコード芸術誌・特選盤）。2019年には、タカギクラヴィアより『Aya Nagatomi plays Chopin』（レコード芸術誌・特選盤）リリースした。

これまでに上海クァルテット、ウェールズ弦楽四重奏団、コロンえりか等と共演。神奈川フィルハーモニー管弦楽団、兵庫芸術文化センター管弦楽団、大阪交響楽団と協奏曲を共演し、いずれも好評を博している。

近年は作曲家の生涯を題材にした講座形式のコンサートを行うほか、ラジオのパーソナリティも務めるなど、演奏活動と並行してクラシックをより多くの人に届けるための活動も行っている。

2021年10月6日にビクターよりラヴェルの作品をリリース。

Born in Japan, she graduated at the top of her class from the High School Division of Tokyo College of Music in 2005. In the same year, she began studying at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music under György Nádor, the internationally renowned scholar of Bartók and Liszt.

From 2008, she relocated to the United States and began performing actively there. That same year, she participated as a scholarship recipient in a symposium at Princeton University, where she studied the Taubman Approach under Edna Golandsky. In 2009, she gave a sold-out recital at Steinway Hall in New York.

For her third album, Resonance – Horowitz Tribute, she recorded using the legendary Steinway CD75, said to have been one of Vladimir Horowitz’s favorite instruments. The album was selected as a Special Recommended Recording by Record Geijutsu magazine.

In 2014, she released the DVD AYA NAGATOMI IN CONCERT, which included her performance of “La Campanella,” a video that surpassed two million views on YouTube (and has since exceeded 3.9 million views).

In 2016, she released her first all-Beethoven album, Aya Nagatomi plays Beethoven, which was also selected as a Special Recommended Recording by Record Geijutsu magazine. In 2019, she released Aya Nagatomi plays Chopin through Takagi Klavier, likewise receiving the magazine’s Special Recommended distinction.

She has collaborated with artists and ensembles including the Shanghai Quartet, the Verus String Quartet, and Erika Colon. She has also performed concertos with orchestras such as the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, and the Osaka Symphony Orchestra, earning high acclaim in each appearance.

In recent years, in addition to her performance career, she has expanded her activities to include lecture-style concerts centered on the lives of composers, as well as work as a radio personality, striving to bring classical music to wider audiences.
